Todd Barron to Chair 2005 United Way Campaign
...
Todd Barron, President of Applied Mortgage Services, has accepted the chairmanship of the United Way of Hampshire County (UWHC) Campaign for the second consecutive year.A major part of Barron's position as chair is to maintain UWHC fundraising campaigns in traditional areas while developing new resource initiatives.
"My primary responsibilities in the campaign are to clearly and constantly articulate our mission: to rally resources to meet community needs, and to help people work toward positive, quality life changes," said Barron.
Community support was the driving force behind Barron's acceptance of the campaign chair position and has motivated him to volunteer at the organization for the past eight years in several roles including board member, treasurer and funds distribution committee member.UWHC President Lewis Stess asked Barron to further his involvement as chair of the 2004-2006 season while he served his 10th year as a Board member.
"I was moved to accept [the offer.] Hopefully, my experience and my commitment to the United Way and the people we serve will help to make this campaign a great success," Barron said."I have been extremely fortunate to have met extraordinary people during my volunteer time with UWHC, people whom I would not have had a chance to meet in my day job.All of these individuals inspire me, and I am grateful to them."
As President of Applied Mortgage Services and a former real estate company co-owner, Barron has been involved with business for over 20 years and said that he still loves the work. While helping people purchase and refinance their homes, Barron achieves many of the same goals that he does as UWHC campaign chair."I can meet and work with many diverse individuals ... Although my work is in the for-profit world, it is directly involved with providing people with essential housing and financial services," he said.
Barron is a lifelong resident of the Hampshire County area; he was born in Northampton and raised in Amherst, South Hadley, and Pelham.Since his parents were active members of local service groups and thoughtful advocates for less advantaged citizens, Barron's commitment to community service was instilled in him at an early age.
"My brothers and I were taught that it is the responsibility of all of us, including those in business, to participate in and work towards the betterment of our communities. [My parents] believed, as do I, that businesses can work toward the greater good and still be successful," Barron said.
