"Since the day he signed on as a reserve officer he has worked most weekends," Alto Chief of Police Charles Barron said.
Barron said at first he rode with another officer and then came to a point where he was patrolling as reserve on his own.

"When the total Hispanic population is approaching 25 percent and the majority speak Spanish, it is to know you have someone that can go out there and listen to them and handle their problems," Barron said.
...
Barron agreed with the culture issue.
"Unless you have lived it you do not truly understand it," Barron said.
Barron said he probably has something that many law enforcement agencies are in need of.
"Every department is looking for a bilingual officer," Barron said."I feel very fortunate to have one."
Barron said hopefully with having Heredia as a officer it will spur an interest in the Hispanic community for law enforcement.
...
"I have heard a lot of positive feedback from the citizens," Barron said."A lot of them thought he was full-time already."
Barron said Heredia's telephone has rung several times at night for situations, which is the same time he will be working now - on the second shift.
"He will be subjected to anything and everything, especially with his shift," Barron said.
