The project in the 8300 block of Lockwood Ridge Road already has won approval from Manatee County Commissioners, and is in the process of being reviewed by the planning staff, said Lisa Barrett, principal planner for the department.

She said she did not know when the staff review might be complete.

Principal Planner Lisa Barrett said there may be some changes made to the staff report, but at this point, not the basic recommendation of denial.

Commissioners approved the River Chase preliminary site plan for 231 homes without discussion and without asking for a presentation from Lisa Barrett, the county's principal planner assigned to the case.

Centex has since taken over the project, said Lisa Barrett, principal planner for the Manatee County Planning Department.

The project is distinct from a 132-unit condominium project in the same general vicinity, plans for which were submitted to Manatee County last year, Barrett said.

The new project would be located south of 44th Avenue and east of the proposed Creekwood Boulevard extension.The older project is situated west of Creekwood Boulevard.

"It's a logical expansion of the extraction zoning in the area," principal planner Lisa Barrett told commissioners.
