Lindsay Barrett, left and Becky Lockhart won the right to represent B.C. at National Open Volleyball championships this week in Ontario when they won the provincial crown in July at Vancouver's Spanish Banks.

After only two seasons together playing beach, Lockhart and Barrett will battle together at Senior National Open championship tournament beginning this week along the shores of Georgian Bay in Wasaga Beach, Ont.

"We've had to persevere through a lot of stuff and we've had a couple of tournament wins," Barrett, 28, a 1992 Semiahmoo Secondary grad, added.She is now an associate with Whitelaw Twining Barristers and Solicitors in Vancouver.

During high school, Lockhart and Barrett were rivals on the indoor courts, captaining EMS Mariners and Semi Totems respectively.

Barrett carried her court play to UBC, while earning a philosophy degree in 1997.She played three seasons with UBC and spent two years playing volleyball at Queen's University, captaining the Ontario school in 2000-01 campaign while earning her law degree.Longtime family friends, they found themselves back in Vancouver in December, 2001 and over a breakfast meeting one morning, they decided to team up on the beach."We were sort of at the next stage of our lives, we had a lot going on and it was tough to commit to a team of six," Barrett said.
