"We perform tests on blood, urine and other specimens to aid the physician in diagnosis andprevention of illness.We also serve two area nursing homes, Bremen Health Care Center and Luann's nursing home in Nappanee," Barrett said.

In addition to these routine lab tests, the lab also operates its own transfusion service and ananatomic pathology department."Our transfusion service provides bloodtransfusions to patients through an agreementfor services with the American Red Cross.Our pathologist, Dr. Diane Mackie, performs tissue testing in our anatomic pathology department," Barrett said.

We now do over 100,000 tests annually," Barrett said.

In 1997 - the same year Barrett was hired as laboratory director - the lab earned animportant accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP)."Typically only larger labs are CAP accredited.We are fairly unique in that we are a small rural hospital that hasthis accreditation," Barrett said.
