The first entitled "Supply Management 2005 , Keeping Pace with the Momentum of the Localization Vendor Base" was led by Fiona Agnew and Dana Barras of Ariba.
    ...
When these two industry leaders talk, people listen; Fiona was the industry's "Localization Professional of the Year" in 2004, and Dana was nominated for the same in 2005.
    ...
Asserting that the most successful vendor strategies are relation based, not transaction based, Fiona and Dana reviewed the different types of vendors (Big 3, New breed MLV, SLV) in the context of how scalability of service should be a factor in vendor selection in service of a defined need.
    ...
Interestingly, the main point of this roundtable was nearly identical to the main point of the session given by Dana and Fiona-it just arrived at the conclusion from a different direction.

    Class Facilitator: Dana Barras Franco

Dana is credited with accomplishments in several areas of the GILT industry including professional translation, consecutive interpreting, project management, cross-cultural consulting, account management, and corporate globalization outsourcing and procurement. This history culminates to her current role as a Business Development Manager at Welocalize, a vertically focused professional services firm in the localization mid-tier.

At Ariba (formerly FreeMarkets), she led a small specialized team including project coordinators, localization engineers, and in country quality reviewers to deliver in total 6 simultaneously shipped product launches in as many as 15 total languages.Dana was instrumental in defining the corporate translation strategy for FreeMarkets, pioneering the model for localization of hosted and installed software, online help, training materials, legal agreements, operational and technical documentation, and marketing collateral into a single outsource strategy. For Global Sourcing Operations, this approach yielded measurably faster turnaround times (decreased by 3 business days), increased quality (elimination of 99% external facing errors) and contained costs over three calendar year outsourcing budgets (average savings of over 19%).

With corporate purchasing and using FreeMarkets localized software, she led the company's efforts in conducting translation vendor selections through RFx and reverse auction model, which resulted in vendor consolidation and cost avoidance of over $2MM, compared to past traditionally negotiated contracts.

Dana hosts the annual gathering of the Localization Fusion Society for the Greater Pittsburgh area, and has recently authored articles in Client Side News Magazine and Multilingual Computing.Dana was nominated for the 2005 Client Side Professional of the Year Award, and is a frequent speaker at GILT industry conferences.

She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, with a BA in Hispanic Studies and two minor concentrations in Italian language and Western European Comparative Language and Cultures.Dana, a former professional translator and interpreter, has knowledge of 5 languages.
