"The SBA are content that the company is acting in a fair and lawful manner, and the SBA is supporting it," said Dennis Barnes, SBA Spokesman.

"Contractors have chosen to implement flexibility regarding redundancies, an option that is available in Cypriot employment regulations, and they are entitled to do so," said Barnes.
"The decision has already been borne out as the case has already gone through the Republic's Ministry of Labour, who confirmed IDL's line is lawful and does not breach existing HR rules and regulations," he added. -

According to British Bases spokesman Dennis Barnes, the SBAs are in possession of four Griffin Mark IV helicopters, "which are available to the Republic for emergency use whenever they are needed."
They are mainly used for fire fighting and search and rescue operations, with their bucket system, commonly referred to as a ‘rainmaker', able to hold one metric tonne of water.
On Wednesday morning, "the Republic requested assistance with a fire at Sykopetra and we dispatched a chopper from the 84 Sqaudron RAF at Akrotiri which joined two of the Republic's helicopters," Barnes explained. "At 12.40, a second Griffin was dispatched."
The fire was still blazing early yesterday, with two more SBA helicopters assisting, before it was brought under control at around 10am.
According to Barnes, both SBA and Republic helicopters share the same water source at Akrotiri.
Last year, SBA Griffins were used by the Republic on approximately 25 occasions.
