Michael Barker, principal of Lynn Middle School in Torrance, said he and his staff were looking forward to the May 20 awards ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel -- and the chance to paint the Distinguished Schools logo on Lynn's facade a second time.
"It's kind of a morale boost," he said."I think it builds confidence in the school and in the community."
Lynn also won the honor four years ago. This time around, Barker said he knew the school had a good shot, thanks in part to lessons that have evolved to include practical and worldly applications.
Students, he said, are consistently challenged with questions such as, "How does this affect the world?"and "How does this affect the economy?"
"This school is great because of the teaching," Barker said.
