"If a doc was paid a lot of money for a practice and had a large nest egg put away, he loses the incentive to work 60 hours a week," especially if the physician is earning a guaranteed salary, explains Don Barbo, senior associate with Dallas-based medical practice valuation company Value Management Group.

Don Barbo is a Senior Associate with the company.He specializes in providing valuation, transaction advisory, and operational consulting services to the firm's healthcare clients.His valuation engagements have included physician practices, acute care and long term care hospitals, cath labs, and ambulatory surgery centers.His valuation expertise has assisted clients in a number of areas, including syndications and partnerships, acquisitions, divestitures, and divorces.Additionally, he has extensive experience in providing financial management and business solutions to physician clients, including business planning, financial statement reporting and analysis, tax strategies and compliance, development of cash management and control systems, and profitability analysis of managed care plans.Mr. Barbo has worked with hospital systems, ambulatory surgery centers, and medical groups including: orthopedics, radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, and family practices.

Mr. Barbo has hands-on financial and operational management experience in a combination of emerging businesses and corporate settings.Mr. Barbo began his career in the audit group of Ernst & Young and has served as the financial officer/controller of several startup and emerging companies where he was responsible for the implementation and operation of the financial systems and personnel.Additionally, he has managed the inventory information system and customer service departments for the corporate office of a Fortune 500 company.

Mr. Barbo holds an undergraduate degree in accounting from Texas Tech University and an MBA from the SMU Cox School of Business.He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and is Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV).
