Carolyn Barbo (Carrie), a recent graduate of Groton Dunstable Regional High School and a member of Sacred Heart - Saint James Parish, was just recognized by the Archdiocese of Boston's Office of Youth Ministry (OYM) as a 2004 recipient of the Eagle of the Cross award. The Eagle of the Cross award is given to outstanding members of the youth community who display strength of character and a commitment to community service at the parish level.Carrie was nominated for this award by our parish's Youth Leadership Team here in Groton and we are all delighted that she was honored and recognized for her unfailing service in our church community.
Carrie has been a very active student at GDRHS, as well as a committed member of Sacred Heart - St. James Parish, serving in a number of different areas including Peer Ministry, School Committee, lector, and Youth Leadership Team. She has attended the Catholic Leadership lnstitute sponsored by the OYM, and she helped to organize many events for our parish and her school, including the Walk for Hunger.Today Carrie is a freshman at Boston College where she already continues her tradition of community service by taking a very active role in many Christian service projects at the college level.
Carrie was honored with the presentation of her award at the annual OYM awards banquet held on Nov. 19, 2004 at Lombardo's in Randolph. In attendance were her family, some friends and members of Sacred Heart - Saint James Youth Leadership Team (including myself). We are very proud of Carrie and all that she stands for as a member of our youth community, and I hope that you will take the opportunity to share this success story with your readers.
