BOWLING GREEN - William E. Ball was on the couch, waiting patiently for police to arrive after he called the department's nonemergency number to say he thought he had killed his girlfriend.
Minutes later, police found the body of Michelle Descant, 24, in a pool of blood on her bed at the South Summit Street house she shared with Ball.She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday.

Charged with one count of murder, Ball, 35, was arraigned yesterday by a video hookup from the county jail.

According to court records, police took Ball into custody soon after finding Ms. Descant.He waived his Miranda rights and admitted to killing her "by cutting her throat with a butcher knife in the upstairs bedroom," according to municipal court records.

Common pleas and municipal court records show that Ball, a self-employed carpenter, was convicted of possession of cocaine in 1997, menacing in 2001, and passing bad checks in 1994.Bowling Green police and Wood County sheriff's records show that both agencies have had numerous contacts with Ball over the years.
In October, 2003, Ms. Descant called police to the Summit Street house because of a domestic dispute.A police report said there had been a "verbal altercation" between her and Ball.Police said both were intoxicated and fighting.
She wanted to leave, but he didn't want her driving so he poured a beer over her head and the two began shoving each other.No one was charged in the incident.
In 2002, sheriff's deputies responded to three incidents that involved Ball and an ex-girlfriend.He was not charged in that incident or in subsequent incidents where he allegedly used her credit card to pay his phone bill, and in another when he was reportedly drunk and would not leave her Weston home.
