Jim Ball, owner of MTOclean of Chesapeake City, VA, served in the United States Army for 21 years before purchasing his MTO office in 2003.

"In the military we are trained to analyze opportunities. The cleaning business is an affordable start-up, has little overhead and most important, there is an overwhelming need for what we do," stated Ball."Bottom line, MTOclean provides an excellent small business opportunity for recently retired military types.I think VetFran is an outstanding way to foster this opportunity."

Jim's wife is currently on active duty in the United States Navy, and his Franchise Manager, Juanita Winter, is a Navy veteran.

"I think as a result of mine and Juanita's training, this office understands the value of organization, discipline and management," stated Ball.

"Jim is a perfect example of ,having what it takes' and the caliber of individual we are looking to attract," stated Golubski.

An increase in traffic, longer lines in shops and restaurants and more processing of things like water bills are associated with the snowbirds' return, said Laurel Park Town Manager Jim Ball.

"There are a number of people who have their houses checked on (by the town Police Department) in the winter because they are living somewhere else during those months," he said.

Both hurricanes, which swept through the town in September, were declared federal disasters, meaning federal assistance is available to the town for damages and employee overtime that occurred during the 72-hour period of each storm, said Laurel Park Manager Jim Ball. The federal government defines the 72-hour period as Sept. 7-9 for Hurricane Frances and Sept. 16-18 for Hurricane Ivan, Ball said during Tuesday's Town Council meeting.

"The town anticipates no problems with reimbursements from FEMA," he said.

Debris removal currently under way along the town's rights-of-way will cost $70,000 and overtime paid to employees who worked during the storms.Reimbursement for equipment used during the hurricanes totaled $10,638, Ball said.

Four pieces of equipment sustained damage during Hurricane Ivan, he said, including a backhoe, two utility trucks and a police car.The cost to repair the equipment is $16,916, Ball said.

The town's insurance company has already reimbursed it for the equipment repairs, he said.

Repairs are complete on the police car and backhoe. One utility truck is being repaired and the other utility truck is scheduled for repair later this month, he added.
    ...
The town contracted for debris removal based on cubic yards of storm debris which came to about 3,000 cubic yards, Ball said. The town contracted out the work because it did not have the equipment or manpower to complete such a huge task, he added.

The brush removal project will take about 30 days to complete, Ball said.
