   A goal on his debut didn't help Steve Balcombe gain a regular first team place, and he moved on to play for various clubs in Ireland and spent some time at Whitby playing for Eddie Gray. Last time I heard he was running a pub in North Yorkshire.

   Shello says: I met Steve a couple of months ago when he moved next door to run'The Bull Inn' West Tanfield Ripon. I still havn't got my drill,ladders or wife back. Never mind the Guinness is great.
   
   Paul Hopkins says: Have just come back froma wonderful weekend with Steve at his inn, The Bull Inn in West Tanfield, near Ripon North Yorks. It is a wonderful place, great food and pints of 'Sheep' and Steve is the consumate and genial host. he really looked after myself and wife Geraldine and Andrew Quigley who is an old friend of Steve's. There is a gastronomic delight of a chef at the Bull Inn. He's French.

   Big Rob says: I played football with Steve in the annual East verus West village game in Great Ouseburn Dteve definately stiil had his touch, I miss the crack you used to get with him and Pat in the Crown, since he's left I've been up to The Bull, to see him, beautiful beer garden, excellent food and hopefully Steve and Pat will buy The Crown back and good times will return to Ouseburn.

   Derm says: Steve is back in North Yorkshire running the newly named Victoria pub, at Cattal..(used to be called Huntsman) Only just opened in April 2004. Beer as good as ever.
   
   Jonathan Balcombe says: I kicked a ball around with Steve when he was 9 and I was 11 during a family reunion trip to UK from Canada in 1970. Proud to have seen (on video) his lovely goal for Leeds, and chuffed to be now living in York and able to visit his beautiful new pub at Cattal! I'm paying for the beers next time Steve, dammit man!
