    "It's hard to go out and beat the drum until the building is at a certain point," said Marilyn Balcombe, the county's Germantown outreach coordinator and a member of the BlackRock board of trustees."So now that it's six months out I think it's a good time to get started."

    Balcombe said while the board and certain community leaders are already excited, the rest of the community needs to be engaged as supporters, visitors and volunteers.

    "We not only need people coming to events and we want to have people excited about investing their money in it, but we also need people willing to roll up their sleeves and come help," she said.

    "I think that the county executive and the County Council clearly understand the importance of BlackRock," BlackRock general manager Marilyn Balcombe said after the decision."It's important for economic development.It's important for community building."

    BlackRock will lease the building, located in Germantown Town Center, from the county while maintaining control over operations.Balcombe said the center's arts classes, summer concert series, gallery offerings and performances will proceed as planned.The center will decrease the number of performances it offers next year, she said.

    "We are going to be moving forward very strongly, but at the same time be fiscally conservative," Balcombe said.
