    Jean Balcombe was born in the United States, and came to England in 1966 to do a Master's Degree in International Relations at the London School of Economics.She then got married, had twins plus another and took a career break until the mid-1980s when she qualified in Librarianship.

    For 15 years, Jean worked at the Industrial Society as Head of their Information Service and then also as their Head of Knowledge Management.Her work included managing an Employment Law Helpline and assisting member companies with their personnel policies and procedures.Jean published several national studies of absenteeism, always generating extensive media coverage.

    Jean was a founder member of the Network and for many years organised its meeting programme.As the current Chairman, she aims to keep the Network on a sound financial footing and increase its membership in all sectors and industries.

    Jean now sits on Employment Tribunals and enjoys a portfolio career, which, she says, includes playing with her grandchildren!
