Richard Bakos, 67, resident of Atlantic Highlands for 41 year, died Tuesday, March 13, peacefully at home surrounded by his family.Richard was born in Perth Amboy, and was raised in South Amboy were he attended St. Mary's High School.He was a member of the IBEW Local Union 358 Perth Amboy, and he retired from IBEW Local Union 456 New Brunswick after a long and fulfilling career as a general foreman with Beach Electric in Paterson.

Rich always had a story to tell about work, fishing, and politics.He spent his retirement enjoying his time on his boat with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends in search of the eighty pound striped bass.He knew were to find the fish and what they were biting on, but that didn't mean he would share that secret with everyone (his grandson William always knew).When he wasn't on his boat you could find him at the house fixing and improving something.He had an extraordinary gift as a craftsman shown thru the beauty of his home.Rich loved working on and restoring the home he shared with his wife of 42 years.He was told the day he and his wife moved into their home that it was the most dilapidate house in Atlantic Highlands, and should be torn down.He saw this as a challenge.His home now sits in full glory on the top of the hill restored to its full magnificence.We will all miss his stories and his insights about current events.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club of Atlantic Highlands, the Shrewsbury Power Squadron, and the St. Agnes Seniors Club.Rich will be missed at 5 o'clock mass at St. Agnes were he took up the collection for many years on Saturday night.As well as being missed at the harbor and at the funnel cake stand at the Atlantic Highlands Fireman's Fair.

Richard was predeceased by his father Joseph and mother Helen both from South Amboy.
