William Baker

William (Bill) BakerBill Baker is Director of Group Dynamics Associates, Berkeley, California, and a Training Associate with the Cognitive Coaching Seminars,.He has been an educator for forty eight years.In his lengthy experience in education, he has been an instrumental and classroom music teacher, an elementary school teacher, a principal, an educational researcher, a college and university teacher, a staff developer, a group facilitator, a curriculum and instruction coordinator, and a consultant.Since retiring from the Alameda County Office of Education, Bill has continued his involvement in education, consulting with schools and districts and presenting coaching and group development workshops, as well as traveling with his wife.

As Co-Director of Group Dynamics, Bill works with school faculties to promote collaborative behavior and group problem solving.He and his partner, Stanley Shalit, have created processes that engage whole school faculties in developing school improvement plans as well as involving them in collaboratively self-assessing their efforts.In addition, Bill works with groups to help the members take on the characteristics of the Facilitative Participant.Group members learn the norms of collaborative behavior and a variety of group structures in which they work to demonstrate these norms.Bill also facilitates groups in group problem solving and cooperative planning experiences.

As a Senior Associate with the Institute for Intelligent Behavior, Bill helped to develop and refine Cognitive CoachingSM, a program for promoting reflective thinking and self-directed learning originally conceived by Arthur Costa and Robert Garmston.
