   WALTHAM, MA, December 7, 2006 - The Board of Trustees of Gann Academy-The New Jewish High School of Greater Boston is pleased to announce the appointment of the next head of school, Rabbi Marc Baker. Rabbi Baker will begin his official duties on July 1, 2007. He will follow in the fine tradition of Rabbi Daniel Lehmann, Gann Academy's founding head, and will bring his own fresh perspective to the school that has become a model of pluralistic Jewish high school education.
   
   Rabbi Baker was chosen following an extensive nationwide search. After speaking with many potential candidates, our Search Committee determined that Rabbi Baker was the best candidate for our school. The Board provided its unanimous and enthusiastic approval. Joshua Elkin, a Gann Academy trustee and executive director of PEJE, Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education, stated that, "Gann Academy is fortunate to have Rabbi Baker as the next head of school.

   As Gann Academy's current Associate Head of Student and Jewish Life, Rabbi Baker has already earned the respect and admiration of the faculty, staff and students. He is a graduate of Philips Andover and Yale University, where he was an outstanding scholar and athlete. He worked at Gann Academy in its second year and went on to study at Hebrew University of Jerusalem where he received a Masters in Jewish Education, the Pardes Institute in Israel, and to receive rabbinic ordination. Before returning to Gann, he taught for four years at the Weber School in Atlanta where he served as Director of Judaic and Student Life. Rabbi Baker is a visionary and articulate leader with passionate commitment to educational excellence and Gann Academy's pluralistic Jewish mission.
   
   Founded in 1997, Gann Academy is a pluralistic Jewish high school with 306 students located on a 20-acre campus in Waltham, Massachusetts.
