The May Report: 07/15/2004: A letter sent Monday, July 12th by William Blair chairman Edgar D. Jannotta and president John R. My information is that the new editor, Jeff Bailey, who came from the Wall Street Journal, Chicago bureau, has a long history of alienating PR people and that a number of reporters at Crain's were upset that the paper went outside the house to hire Bailey.
    ...
The word on Jeff Bailey is that he is arrogant and anal.He looks over the shoulders of the reporters as they are writing and he is known for sending five or six e-mails to a reporter saying, "Did you check this?"or "Did you check that?"He comes back three times on one point. One of his own staff reporters told me that he would be unlikely to talk to me about the departures of Borden and Strahler.

When Bailey is pitched a story from a PR person, he says, "What do you have that my 700 person organization doesn't?"You know, Jeff, you need a vacation before more of your people quit.

And the Trib. has blown it too on the William Blair story which The May Report has scooped.

With a newly expanded route network, these combo-airline would need to reduce the number of flights to certain markets, and possibly even eliminate hubs (Bailey mentioned Northwest's Memphis Airport or Delta's Cincinnati hub).
