    A little more than a decade ago, Steve Bacque (pronounced Bah Kay) was homeless and living in a shelter in Houston, Texas, At 27 years of age, he had only 4th grade reading and writing comprehension due to a learning disability, dyslexia, which had gone undiagnosed.Despite this, Steve had graduated from high school, briefly attended college and spent four years in the Marines!

    After enduring six months in the shelter and a period of personal reversals, Steve relocated to New Jersey where his dyslexia was finally discovered after he enrolled part-time at Cook College (Rutgers University).With the help of new friends and his wife, he started his own tov company with less than $3000.He had no prior business experience or education.

    In five years, he brought more than 60 products onto the retail market in the United States and other parts of the world.His toys can now he found in such outlets as K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Toys "R" Us, in catalogs, direct response television, theme-parks and in fast-food children's meals.Steve also created toys based on the characters from the Disney movie, Toy Story.

    Along the way he earned several honors including Entrepreneur of the Year (sponsored by Merrill Lynch, Inc.Magazine and Ernst & Young); the Small Business Success Award (,sponsored by the New Jersey Small Business Development Center); and Inventor of the Year (sponsored by the New Jersey Inventors Association).He has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, Good Morning America, CNBC, 20/20 and in The New York Times, Success Magazine, FORBES and other publications. in 1993, he was inducted into the International Who's Who of Business and two years later, Steve sold his company to a multi-million dollar corporate conglomerate!

    How did all of this happen?For starters, Steve applied hands-on marketing, sales and customer service tips to his business.Combining "how to" information with his gut instincts, he developed a successful enterprise.

    Today, Steve is eager to share his lessons learned with others.In 1998, his first book, THE ROADMAP TO SUCCESS, was published.The follow up title, WHY BUSINESSES FAIL, will he out in 1999.He continues to contribute expertise as a featured columnist for several business magazines.Steve's speeches and workshops are a mix of education (learning can he fun and interesting), motivation and inspiration.
