Alex Asselin started his new job as media advance officer last month replacing John Zerucelli who has joined the office of federal Natural Resources Minister Herb Dhaliwal as an Ontario assistant.
...
Mr. Asselin who hails from Ottawa, Ont., is currently attending Carleton University here in the capital city studying political science. He started to work for the Privy Council Office as a summer student in 1998 as a messenger and in 2000 moved to the Prime Minister's Office to working part-time in a variety of positions.
As a media advance officer, Mr. Asselin, 23, has to "liaise" with the media. He travels ahead of time wherever the Prime Minister is scheduled to go to set things up.
"I go where the Prime Minister is going to be giving any sort of public event so that involves media. For example, [for] the Cabinet meeting [in] Toronto, the day before we looked at the site to find out where we were going to do the photo opportunities and set up the scrum room for him," said Mr. Asselin in an interview.
