   In the semi-finals without key players Luca Zucal and Richard Assante, already at school, the Azzurri ‘85 took a crushing blow losing star striker Rodrigo Quiroga to a nasty concussion.

   This year's player of the year is a long time Azzurri player grown up in the heart of North York. Like so many Azzurri players Richard Assante honed his skills in the Driftwood community centre. Richard came to the Azzurri as a youth and perfected his game under the tutelage of coaches such as Rafael Carbajal, Carlos Quiroga and Carmine Isacco.

   Richard was the ‘85 Azzurri team captain and team leader, he has a professional approach and commitment to every training session, game, and meeting. Richard's positive attributes did not go unnoticed as he joined Frank Bruno at Syracuse University on a full scholarship and was a stalwart on Dale Mitchell's under 20 National team who lost to Spain in the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Congratulations Richard and we hope you all the best in future endeavors.
