   In December, Betsy Asplundh visited the first grade for three dates. Betsy is a decorative painter known for her distinctive hand-painted furniture and painted block-printed children's clothing. She earned her degree in English literature from Duke University and has studied art and art education since 1990. She teaches art at the Raven's Run Art Camp.
   
   During her three-day residency with the 1st grade, Betsy introduced the students to the interactive dynamic between poetry and fine art. Using a variety of materials and techniques, the students will create drawings and paintings reflecting their own personal response to the poems Betsy shares with them.
