Linda Asper has served the people of Manitoba for over thirty-five years with her work in education, public service and in the voluntary sector.
Linda has had lengthy career in public service including a term as a school trustee in the Seine River School Division. She also served as President of the Manitoba Teachers' Society and as Vice President of the Canadian Teachers' Federation. She was a visiting scholar at Harvard University in 1995.
Linda has been a member of the St Boniface College Board of Governors, a member of the Faculty Council at the University of Manitoba and an executive member of the Manitoba Action Committee on the Status of Women. She has a Ph.D in Education (Administration).
Linda has also been actively involved in community work. She was the Treasurer of the Fort Garry Women's Resource Centre, and a former volunteer with the Prendergast Day Care Centre and the St Vital South Family YM-YWCA Day Care Centre.
Linda is a long time season ticket holder for MTC, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Manitoba Opera, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and recently the Goldeyes. She has served as a Girl Guide leader, and has coached basketball, volleyball, track and field and badminton.
Having been elected in the 1999 general election, Linda promises to help the NDP government restore strong leadership to the province as it faces the challenges of a new century. She was Legislative Assistant to the Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister (1999-2000) and is now Legislative Assistant to the Minister of Advanced Education and Training.
