As part of the series 'Pianists of the World', Tor Espen Aspaas plays a lunchtime concert in St Martin-in-the-Fields on Friday 27 January.
Tor Espen Aspaas is associate professor at the Norwegian State Academy of Music and was born in 1971 in Røros, Norway. He received his soloist diploma from the Norwegian State Academy of Music in 1996 and gave his official debut recital to enthusiastic critical acclaim in Oslo 1997. Aspaas has been awarded a number of prizes - the 2004 Lindeman Youth Prize being the most recent and Lauréat (1er prix) in Alliance Francaises «Concours Européen 1990».
In addition to giving recitals in Germany, Spain, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hong Kong and Monaco, he has appeared repeatedly as soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and several other national and international symphony orchestras collaborating with conductors such as Frans Brüggen, Tuomas Ollila, Bjarte Engeset, Christian Eggen and Vassily Sinayski.
Following several earlier recordings, his most recent release of Paul Dukas´ complete music for piano on SIMAX Classics has received praise from the press. Tor Espen Aspaas is also artistic director of the Chamber Music Festival "Vinterfestspill i Bergstaden" in Røros.
