   Asmundsson isn't taking it quite that far, but he said he is reminded of the years immediately preceding 1000 A.D., when panic seized the superstitious population of Western Europe, leading many to abandon their farms and forges to join millennial cults preaching bizarre prophecies of doom.
   
   Many expected that the cataclysms predicted in the Book of the Apocalypse would commence at the turn of the millennium and that Judgment Day would soon follow, he said. While few people today advocate that we take to the hills and abandon our technologically advanced buildings, the coming of Year 2000 is likely to affect commercial buildings of different ages and types in significant and dramatically different ways, and unless building owners are adequately informed and prepared, the effects may indeed be catastrophic.
