   Rod started out in the accounting field. In addition to working with larger companies, Rod also worked as an independent bookkeeper for numerous small companies. In 1976 Rod entered the real estate field, being first licensed as a real estate agent for Grant Land Company of Stillwater, Minnesota. After one year, Rod was promoted to assistant sales manager. Part of his duties included attending closings on behalf of the company at various local banks. In 1978 he joined a metro wide company, Bermel-Smaby Realtors, as a sales agent. In 1980 Rod became licensed as a real estate Broker, starting his own real estate company. In 1988, with a partner, they were on the cutting edge of real estate sales as a "buyer's broker" before most agents and buyers even understood what that meant. While selling, Rod pursued his real desire for the "paper work" side of the transaction in closing, working with various local brokers as a closing agent. Rod joined Universal Escrow in 1983 gaining a deeper understanding of the title industry. In 1986 Rod started his own closing company, closing for various brokers, agents and "For Sale By Owners". From 1983 - 1989, Rod also taught real estate continuing education for Anoka-Ramsey Community College and other smaller real estate schools. Rod now concentrates his limited "real estate brokerage" activities on working with "For Sale By Owners" to assist them through the "paper work" portion of the transaction.
