   MDP Elections Director and Addu atoll MP, Mohamed Aslam deemed it to be "a landmark election. It will be the first nationwide election held in Maldives where more than one name is on the ballot."
   
   Aslam invited NGO's, other political parties and international organizations to observe "this milestone in Maldivian democracy".
   
   "It will be challenging holding these elections, but I am confident that they will be as fair and transparent as the last leadership elections we held. We'll be setting up around 100 ballot boxes across the country, at which each candidate will be allowed a representative to oversee the voting," he says.
