Ahmad Irfan Aslam Ahmad Irfan Aslam is currently working as an advisor to the Government of Pakistan on International Trade issues. He is also the head of a major policy think tank called Institute of Trade and Development.
Ahmad attended the universities of Cambridge and London and received degrees in Economics and Law. After completing his second degree and interning with a law firm in London Ahmad joined the WTO secretariat in Geneva where he worked in the technical cooperation division, dealing with matters of legal assistance to developing countries. In 2001 he joined a major policy think tank called FIELD (Foundation for International Law and Development) in London. During his time with FIELD Ahmad published a few articles and also lectured extensively on capacity building courses. After FIELD he joined the MILE where he did his dissertation on dispute settlement and IP issues. While at the WTI Ahmad came up with the idea of setting up the Institute of Trade and Development - a policy think tank that also provides consultancy services. ITD has by now done a number of projects with the World Bank, the ADB, the IDB and the Government of Pakistan. ITD is currently involved in carrying out capacity building courses for trade officials from Pakistan and Nepal.
In his free time Ahmad plays golf and is learning to play the sitar.
