Irene Askins, 86, of Bella Vista, Arkansas and formerly of Sycamore and Genoa, Illinois died Wednesday, December 19, 2001 in Bates Medical Center in Bentonville, Arkansas. She was born April 30, 1915 in Bradish, Nebraska the daughter of George W. and Eugenia (Yeager) Tedford. She married Gilbert Askins on February 16, 1935 in Sycamore. She worked for GTE Automatic Electric in Genoa for twenty-three years, retiring in 1976.
She is survived by two sons, George (Ethel) Askins of Henderson, Arkansas, Donald (Julienne) Askins of DeKalb; a daughter, Jean (Howard) Keister of Bella Vista; thirteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Jerry Askins; three sisters, Ruth Griffin, Chloe Burch, Mayme Dickey; a brother, Albert Tedford; and a great-grandson, Bradley George Montgomery. She was a Senior Regent in the Sycamore Women of the Moose Lodge and a member for forty-five years; a member of the Jolly Kitchenette Band in Sycamore, and a member of the Ding-a-lings of Florida.
