Mr. Askins was the industrial arts teacher at Rocky Grove and Oil City Junior and Senior High Schools. He was assistant coach of track and field and cross country programs at both schools, developing the first boys cross county team at Rocky Grove and the girls track and field and cross county programs at Oil City.
He also had other jobs in his lifetime, including stock and delivery in his father's store; truck driver hauling strip mine coal in southwestern Pennsylvania; engineer aide, civilian attaché for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; in 1960 he was the first full time chief assessor of Venango County, coordinating the mapping, identifying, assessment and appeals of properties throughout the county; Continental Can Co. in Oil City; manager of Drake Cinema in Oil City; assistant manager at the Cranberry Mall Cinemas; projections at the Sky-Hi drive-in cinema at Cranberry; and projectionist at the auto drive-in cinema near Titusville.
Mr. Askins was a member of the PSEA-R, NEA-R, the local retired teachers of Venango County and the Venango County chapter PSAR.
He was married Aug. 30, 1953, to the former Alice Marie Dunmire, who survives.
