   Shawn Askinosie earned his undergraduate degree in political science at the University of Missouri after studying for one year at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan. He graduated with a law degree from MU in 1989. After practicing in Fort Worth, Texas, he moved back to his native Springfield to start his own practice. Since then, he has had a number of high profile cases that have garnered national media attention. Shawn was lead counsel in the death penalty trial of a popular local high school teacher who was found not guilty of the murders of his entire immediate family. He also handled the successful appeal, along with David Mercer, of an Ozark banker charged and convicted of the first-degree murder of his wife. Shawn won an acquittal for that client in his new trial. In addition, he won probation in a first-degree murder case in the middle of the trial.
   
   Two of Shawn's cases have become Dateline NBC special reports. He has also been featured on Court TV, Prime Time Justice, Inside Edition, and most major newspapers in the nation, including the New York Times. He was named Best Lawyer in Springfield in 1998, 1999, and 2000 by 417 Magazine and he was awarded the Thomas D. Cochran Community Service Award by the Missouri Bar Association. In 2001, he was named one of the Missouri Lawyers of the Year by Missouri Lawyers Weekly.
   
   He has been a regular speaker at the Missouri Bar, covering issues from jury selection strategies to trial preparation skills. He has been invited to speak to Missouri trial judges on new DNA testing statutes. He has co-authored several legal articles and served as a legal commentator for Court TV and KY-3 NBC in California v. O.J. Simpson and Missouri v. DeLong.    He is a member of the Missouri State Bar, the State Bar of Texas, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association and a member and former director of Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is co-founder and board member of Lost & Found, a non-profit organization benefiting children who have experienced the death of a loved one. He is on the board of directors at Grace Classical Academy. He also founded the Tarrant County Adult Probation Literacy Education Project.
   
   Shawn received the highest possible rating from Martindale-Hubbell's lawyer rating system. Lawyers are rated separately on legal ability and professional ethics reflecting the confidential opinions of the Bar and the Judiciary. Shawn has a rating of AV, which recognizes the highest levels of skill and integrity.
   
   Outside of the office and his work with Lost & Found, Shawn enjoys cooking and is an active member in his church. He lives with his wife, daughter, and canine son in Springfield, Missouri.
