According to Jim Asker of radio website All Access, country music radio has seen ratings drop for four straight quarters -- possibly because of radio consolidation and stagnant playlists.
Perhaps the searches for lesser-known country artists demonstrate the fact that country fans have to find new ways to hear new music, including using the Internet. It also may show that we're right when we say everyone in America is online, even the Wal-Mart crowd.
Can pop-country crossover make a comeback?According to Asker, the group SheDAISY has a new record out and the chance to crossover, and we should also look out for the group Pinmonkey (described as "a male Dixie Chicks").
Of course, there's no new album on the horizon for Dixie Chicks or Shania Twain -- and the next Faith Hill record, coming out sometime this year, will be promoted not by Warner Brothers Nashville, but by Warner Brothers Los Angeles. That means it will be promoted as a pop record, not a country one.Let the crossover arguments -- and, just maybe, the Lycos 50 appearances -- begin.
