This is confirmed by Karin Ask, who is Statoil's project manager for the application in the new areas unit of Exploration & Production Norway.

A total of 68 blocks has been put on offer on this occasion.According to Ms Ask, the blocks are primarily located in areas near existing infrastructure, and they do not comprise any ‘virgin' areas of the North Sea.

"We are applying for small acreage on a limited number of blocks, together with partners in licences which have already been awarded.One reason for this is to secure additional acreage to existing acreage in neighbouring blocks," Ms Ask explained.

The authorities will probably announce the results of this year's North Sea licensing round in March or April 2002.

New deluge systems on Statfjord Posted Monday, December 10, 2001 - 3:43 by petrominOperator Statoil has awarded OIS Contracting the assignment of replacing the deluge systems on the three platforms on the Statfjord field in the North Sea.

The contract is worth around NOK 180 million and includes a complete replacement of systems connected to the main ring, instrumentation and valve stations in many of the modules on the three platforms.

"Our applications are split roughly 50-50 between supplementary acreage near infrastructure and new areas," explains Karin Ask, Statoil's manager for the licensing round.

"We've submitted a relatively broad application, and are focusing on opportunities for both oil and gas discoveries."

She adds that the group is applying partly alone and partly in cooperation with other companies.

Licence awards are due to be made by the end of April at the latest.
