Gary Ask Ask, who lives at 726 South Shore Drive, served as administrator of Sunnyside Nursing Home near Lake Park from 1978 to 1996. He has lived in Detroit Lakes for 25 years. Since 1997, he has worked as an independent insurance agent, specializing in long term care insurance. In an interview, Ask said he would base his city council votes on input from constituents and a well-reasoned, studied approach. He said he would not have a problem being on the losing end of a close vote. "I'm reasonable enough that I wouldn't hold any grudges," he said. "I was administrator at Sunnyside for 18 years," he added. "I worked with the Sunnyside Board and (county) commissioners, so I know the importance of a board working together, while still disagreeing at times." He earned a psychology degree from Bethel College in St. Paul in 1971, earned his master of divinity degree in 1976 from Bethel Theological Seminary and attended the University of Minnesota for long term care administration in 1977. He served on the Lake Detroiter Board from 1997 to 2002, was a member of the Breakfast Rotary club from 1992 to 1996, and served on several school district committees. He coached youth baseball and served as youth leader at Community Alliance Church, where he now teaches Sunday school.
