That is until Minister of Economic Affairs and Tourism, Ivar Asjes, stands up with a surprise announcement, "The Curaçao Tourist Board is going to pay to send Coach De La Paz to Williamsport with the team."

De La Paz is the team's volunteer coach, a local man with a love for the game, who volunteers his time every day to help the boys get ready for the Series, asking nothing in return.He knows going in to each season that the Little League Commission will only pay to send three coaches with the team, and he can't afford to make the extensive trip on his own.

This was stated by commissioner Ivar Asjes (Economic Affairs and Tourism, PLKP).

According to Commissioner Ivar Asjes, the government of Curacao should be willing to invest in a new airline company that would solve the airlift problem of the island.

Asjes is all for it.He is of the opinion that a new national airline company should be considered as a strategic instrument for the development of the economy and tourism on the island.He said during the press conference of the Executive Council (BC) last week, that at the coalition level there are discussions going on to establish a successor to the bankrupt DCA.

He expects this to be added to the government agreement of the current coalition on island level.Asjes thinks of a national airline company, in which the island government has to invest in order to get some say.This is at odds with the version of the former BC, which also PLKP, together with PAR, PNP, and MAN were part of.

According to the former BC, a new airline company with Curacao as basis, should be founded without the financial contribution of the island Government of Curaçao.However, Asjes does not agree with this.

Asjes doesn't have a timeframe in mind yet for the realization of his plans.

Ivar Asjes, Curaçao's Minister of Economic Affairs and Tourism was also in attendance to lend his support for the project, "The ceremonial groundbreaking is a milestone for the island of Curaçao.This project is a symbol of the growth and prosperity that we have to look forward to as we continue to implement the infrastructure needed to accommodate the growth in tourism to our island.We welcome the Hyatt family and know it will be a successful union for everyone involved," commented Asjes.

We expect visitor numbers to continue to climb as steps are put into place to encourage tourism, starting with the launch of a new non-stop flight from Newark to Curaçao on Continental beginning December 17, 2005," Asjes said.Completion of the Hyatt Regency Curaçao is planned for late 2007.
