"We are there and we are going to get them," said Mr Alex Asiimwe, the deputy police commander for Kira Road Police Station.
...
Mr Asiimwe said that the incidents appear to be more regular in Kisaasi and surrounding areas because a big number of army veterans live there.
He also said there was a problem of proliferation of illegal arms and small weapons coupled with many idlers who he said were unemployed but must survive.
...
"Three incidents [in three months] is a very high figure," said Mr Asiimwe, "even if it were one.We want people to have an easy life as possible without any antagonism."
The robbers employ a number of tricks, according to police. They use neighbourhood children, for example."They ask them to either go through windows or climb over the walls [in return for small pay]," Mr Asiimwe said.
...
Most of the thefts, according to Mr Asiimwe, are carried out during the day.
...
Mr Asiimwe said that the police have stepped up day and night patrols in the affected areas.
He asked residents to report any suspicious people lurking in the neighbourhoods."We are encouraging neighbourhood watch," he said.
"We also encourage people to leave someone home who must insist on calling the homestead owner before letting in anybody."
To report information leading to the arrest of more suspects, and any possible threats, the residents of the affected areas may contact Mr Asiimwe on: 0714 66 77 87.
