Larry from a school library in Checotah, OK, is a Star because he took a school media center from a place where no one wanted to go into the place to be on campus in less than one school year. Thanks to Margaret for this nomination.
Jose from a school library in Colton, CA, is a Star because he knows our collection inside & out. Fluently bilingual [Eng./Sp.], Jose can deal with nearly all of our 3,200 students in their native language. Leading his own rock band, he can interact with our pupils on their own level. Thanks to Larry for this nomination.
Helen from an academic library in University Park, IL, is a Star because Helen offers free computer workshops to individuals who request private instruction when they are unable to attend public workshops due to scheduling conflicts. She also makes sure to greet me with a smile every time she sees me, in addition to asking me how my school work is comming along. Thanks to Sarah for this nomination.
Rose from an academic library in Skokie, IL, is a Star because Rose always remembers to ask how a student is doing in their coursework. She is patient with students and makes sure to review information with students until she is sure that they understand her, and have the resources to access the information they need. Most generously, she helps students save lots of money by guiding them through the world of inter-library loan, to obtain textbooks for their courses. Thanks to Sarah for this nomination.
Susie from a public library in Mishawaka, IN, is a Star because she maintains a positive attitude that is contagious! She supervises the reference staff with fairness and integrity, and serves the public with energy and skill. It's a pleasure working for and with Susie. Thanks to Pam for this nomination.
Carol from an academic library in Carrollton, GA, is a Star because of her exceptional customer service provided to faculty and staff.
...
Laura and Libby from a school library in Elkhart, IN, are Stars because they are dedicated to serving all the libraries in my school corporation.
...
Laurel from a public library in Jamaica, NY, is a Star because as coordinator of the Library's 21st Century Learning Center Grant, Laurel brings a program every day to teens in the Far Rockaway Community Library. In a neighborhood with high risk factors, Laurel has started a summer reading blog, got the teens to write a fundable grant and presides over a drop in homework center that results in measurable academic improvements for participants. In her "spare time," Laurel took the lead to coordinate and mentor an Alternative Spring Break program for library students from her Alma Mater, Michigan State. She served as a script consultant for the library's first ever, streaming video -- targeting teens, of course. The vidoe is based on her success in helping students do research, write a pager, and make a presentation. She is a true star! Thanks to Kathy for this nomination.
Eileen from a public library in Jamaica, NY, is a Star because Eileen is the heart and soul of Special Services/JIC at our library. Those of us who work with her say that when Eileen retires (in the next few years) they might as well close the department down. I do not have enough room to say how tireless, caring and just plain wonderful she is to our department. Thanks to Diana for this nomination.

Thanks to Laurel for this nomination.
Ros from a public library in Stanton, CA, is a Star because she is the perfect example of what a branch manager should be. She mentors newer librarians, is constantly in action, and is filled with the drive to make our library a better place to visit and work. I've never seen anyone work as hard or as happily as she does, and she takes a genuine interest in the people around her. I am truly blessed to have her as an example of what I want to be. Thanks to Jennifer for this nomination.
Pete from a public library in Las Cruces, NM, is a Star because Pete has exceptional customer service skills. He is a living example of what excellent public service is. Behind a busy and short-staffed Circulation desk, Pete always faces outward toward the customers when he is working on any task so that he can see patrons approach the desk. When they do, he drops what he's doing and rushes over to serve them. He doesn't pretend not to see them; he doesn't finish what he's doing and then go to their aid; he is 100% about the customer receiving speedy service. Pete is a fabulous example for all to follow. Thanks to Deborah for this nomination.
Laurie from an academic library in Caro, MI, is a Star because she keeps me organized, and does fab at her job. She always helps me get where I need to go, and helps to keep our library in order. It's great to have her here! Thanks to Marisa for this nomination.
Rob from the ALA in Chicago, IL, is a Star because I say he is! Thanks to Rob for this nomination.
Joseph from a public library in Ashtabula, Ohio, is a Star because of his dedication, energy, enthusiasm, and most of all, his sense of humor. He started out as our reference librarian and has now moved up to the position of our director. He continues to work hard and pitch in when we're busy. He'll take the time to work the desk or answer a phone or pull holds and always keeps his sense of humor which rubs off on all of us. He's always available to the public too and is a real people person.

Laura from a public library in Virginia Beach, VA, is a Star because Laura, as a Library Information Specialist II, works tirelessly for the library in the reference area of public service at our branch Library; in obtaining goods and services with which to market library activities; in leading and sharing responsibilty for Teen Read Week committee activities;in organizing activities for the teen advisory group at her library and for other area teens as well; and finally, in volunteerism for the Relay for Life and cancer research. Whenever Laura is asked to assist in location of area stores, vendors, etc who might be willing to donate to the library programs, Laura willingly takes this on. It is one of her strongest abilities that she knows how to approach area merchants and convince them of the value of the local library in the community. She uses personal visits, phone calls and letters to facillitate discussion and maintains contact with said merchants should they too need anything. Laura also is very careful to show gratitude to those contacts through the use of letters, verbal contact, and advertising. Last year Laura headed up Teen Read Week Committee and helped the committee organize fabulous events for the city's library like the Teen Band Blowout, which facillitated area teen bands playing their music at the Oceanfront, thereby giving them exposure and bringing teens back to the libraries for more programs. Laura is a team player and a thorough and hardworking leader. Laura works well as a Teen Advisory Group leader. She is able to organize interesting meetings on a regular basis. The teens have sponsered programs for the public to bring more teens in, like a program on Henna tatooing (mehndi) that was very popular. Laura's teen group has enjoyed learning about the various cultures active in the group by having speakers tell about their lives, as well as present international foods and music. Laura participated in the Central Library TAG Sleepover and stayed until the very end, making sure everything was put away and organized. For Teen Tech Week, Laura worked to organize and develop an Edible Cars program for her own library and performed many other functions for the committee as the group labored to get the Teen Tech Week advertised and made known to the general public. Finally, Laura works much on her own time as the leader for Relay for Life in the Library department. She has helped raise a great deal of money for Relay for Life through her efforts at developing fun and easy to do activities for the library department. She organizes a yearly yard sale, Relay for Life events at the city's ampitheater and gets volunteers for said events, participates in the fund raising at concerts and brings family members along for those, and encourages other team members to use their skills and abilities to plan activities on their own like a library Relay for Life barbeque held at the Central Library just this winter. Laura Ashworth is a worthy candidate to receive a star nomination for National Library Workers day because she is a star in her own right and the hardest working libary employee that I know. I have known her for over twenty years and I have to say that if anyone deserves this, it is Laura. Thanks to Dana for this nomination. -
