    WALLINGFORD -- Bertram A. Ashworth Sr., 77, of Fifth Ridge Road, Wallingford, entered into the presence of the Lord Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of Janet L. Strachan Ashworth.

    Born in Boston, Mass., Jan. 26, 1925, he was a son of the late John J. and Elizabeth Petrie Ashworth and had been a resident of Hyde Park, Mass., until moving to Wallingford in 1956. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Markab and the Korean War, he also served as First Class Boiler Maker Instructor at the U.S. Naval Training Center in Great Lakes Ill. He was employed as a Mechanic and Inspector for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad for 44 years until his retirement 17 years ago, during which time he served as a Spiritual Leader and custodian at the Fellowship of Life Church in Cheshire, and was an active and much loved member of Faith Living Church in the Plantsville section of Southington. Bert was an accomplished model ship builder and loved designing and making unique gifts for his family and friends. His loving devotion to his wife and family, and his humble generous spirit touched the hearts of many.

    Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol L. and Bruce E. Bryand of Meriden; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Bertram A. Ashworth Jr. and Rosemarie Ashworth and David B. Ashworth and Pamela Ashworth, all of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, Derek, Celena and John Ashworth, Briana and Daniel Yopp, Justin Bryand and fiancée, Diane, Mariah Bryand and fiancé, Rob, Althea and Jesse Bryand, Kelli Lunsford, Robert and Debbie Boles, Samuel and Kimberly Boles; he also leaves his two loving sisters and brothers in law, Carol and Bill Brackett of Wallingford and Pauline and John Potts of Quincy, Mass.; his beloved brother, John C. Ashworth of Tampa Fla.; and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Lizotte.

    His family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services Monday at 10 a.m. in the Faith Living Church, Plantsville.
