Kathryn C. Ashton practices in the area of appellate law with an emphasis on complex civil litigation and insurance coverage disputes.Ms. Ashton's experience includes appeals, writ proceedings, petitions for review and rehearing, amicus curiae briefs, and requests for publication and depublication of appellate opinions in California.She also handles appeals on a variety of issues in both state and federal courts of appeal.

In addition to her appellate experience, Ms. Ashton is active in litigating complex insurance coverage disputes and in providing coverage advice to clients on a variety of matters involving primary, umbrella and excess insurance.

While in law school, Ms. Ashton served as an extern to the Honorable Edward A. Infante of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.

"I know I'm throwing away a sure million dollars or more by suing," said Cathy Ashton of Queens.Her 21-year-old son Thomas, an electrician's apprentice, died at the Trade Center.

"It was a difficult decision for my husband and me to make, but we really want to hold those people accountable," she said, referring to the airlines and other potentially liable concerns.

"It's not about money," she said.

"I'd like something magnificent, respectful, grand, immense, with a lot of open space," said Kathy Ashton of Queens.
