   Norma Ashton-Smith is currently a Doctoral student at University of Melbourne. Previously she was the Director of Curriculum at Woodleigh School, a Coeducational Anglican Independent School in Baxter, Victoria. She is also the immediate Past President of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders. In this role she has led the ACEL Victorian Affiliate throughout 2003 and 2004, chairing board meetings, monthly Special Interest Group meetings at the Australian Institute of Management, chairing and organising several conferences and overseeing the ACEL Travelling Scholar program.
   
   Norma was formerly the Director of Human Resources at The Knox School in Wantirna South where her role incorporated not only academic and curriculum roles, but also those of school leadership, administration, and management. In her position of Director of Human Resources she was responsible for the management of staff in areas such as professional development, induction, performance management, curriculum and student teacher practice. She also had responsibility for continuous school improvement through the maintenance of the school's quality management system.
   
   In 2002 Norma commenced Doctoral Studies with a curriculum focus and her present role focuses on whole school curriculum design and development, teaching and learning strategies, and the integration of new learning technologies into classroom teaching practice. Norma has written several articles which have been published in Educational Journals and has presented workshops and professional development sessions.
