Previous to joining AdvanceOnline in 1997, Ashman spent 13 years in management positions at Freedom Chemical Co. and its subsidiaries, Kalama Chemical Co. and Chatterton Petrochemical.As vice president of commercial operations for Kalama from 1989 to 1994, Ashman grew sales in the international market from less than 2 % of total revenue to more than 30 %.During his stint as executive vice president and vice chairman of Chatterton Petrochemical from 1995 to 1997, he was responsible for returning a foreign acquisition in bankruptcy to profitable revenues.
From 1985 to 1989, Ashman honed his financial management skills as a partner of the Clarion Group, a venture capital organization responsible for finding, organizing and financing new ventures.He structured and negotiated the purchase of Kalama Chemical by B.C. Sugar, and the consolidation of Kalama Chemical and Chatterton Petrochemical.During this time, he was also vice president of commercial operations at Chatterton Petrochemical, a venture of Clarion.
Ashman's experience in the chemical industry also includes 13 years (1971 to 1984) in executive positions at Holland Chemical International (HCI) and its subsidiaries.As district manager of Holanda Ecuador, he persuaded the Ecuadorian government to approve the first-ever public duty-free zone, and the company became the largest and most profitable chemical distributor in Ecuador.As the corporate vice president and general manager of Centro Quimico in Guatemala, he established four start-up distribution companies and three public duty-free bulk chemical terminals in Central America, and the company became the largest chemical distributor in Central America.
Ashman earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Oregon and a post-graduate degree in international business from the Nederlands Institut voor Het Buitenland.
