Greg Ashlock, general manager of KFI-AM, said the tower has all of the lighting required by the FAA and Federal Communications Commission. KFI is owned by Clear Channel Communications, which bought the tower four years ago from Cox Enterprises.
Ashlock said he was not aware of specific complaints levied by local pilots. -

The station still has a 204-square-foot tower, but that antenna's signal reaches only Los Angeles and Orange counties and it is spotty in places, said Greg Ashlock, general manager of KFI.
The previous antenna's signal covered much of the Western United States, Ashlock said.
"It was a clear channel signal, but in order to maintain that classification, the minimum height would be about 680 feet," Ashlock said.
When the signal was at previous strength, KFI reached about 18 million people, he said.
"It's more than just a tower," Ashlock said.

Ashlock responded that, unlike the previous tower, the new one will have a dual lighting system - white flashing lights during the day and red flashing lights at night.
In addition, the Federal Aviation Administration has made a determination that the new tower would pose no more of a hazard than the previous one, he said.
The FAA is requiring the additional lights.
