He was employed by Smith Built, Inc. of Knoxville as a heavy equipment operator. Russ was preceded in death by his father, William E. Ashley and his grandparents Charles and Goldia Sweet, Fred and Ossie Ashley and Conley and Nettie Belton.

   Russell will be laid to rest at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Va. Visitation will be Tuesday May 31, 2005 from 6-9 P, M. at Gilliam Funeral Home 618 Wood Ave., Big Stone Gap, Va., Committal services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Glencoe Mausoleum with Alan Collier officiating.
