Matt Ashley
...
Matt has served as the Associate Pastor at First Gilbert since 1999.Orginally from Nebraska, he mostly grew up in Tucson, where he graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in English.
Overwhelmed by God's loving grace and wanting to share that grace with others, Matt sensed a call into the ministry and explored his call by serving as youth director at Christ Church United Methodist in Tucson. He next traveled east for his seminary training, graduating from Duke University with a Master of Divinity degree.
Matt enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, the Rev. Jenny Smith of Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, as well as his spoiled basset hound, Olyve, and a rather curious cat named Quimby. He's a big Nebraska Cornhusker fan, and puts lots of miles on his truck traveling to Tucson for Wildcat football and basketball games.
Other interests include movies, plays, the outdoors, and tinkering with his '83 Chevy Camaro (though he hardly knows what he is doing!).
Matt is thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the loving Christian community at NSUMC since he joined our family on July 1, 2004.
