Martin Ashley was born in Battle Creek and is a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School.He received an Associate degree from Kellogg Community College, and is currently employed by K-mart.Ashley is an ordained deacon and elder of the First Presbyterian Church and serves as church historian.He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Historical Society of Battle Creek as well as historian and trustee of Oak Hill Cemetery.Ashley serves as a regular volunteer in the archives of the Historical Society and was one of the authors of the Gold-In-Flakes pictorial history of the origins of the Battle Creek Cereal industry, recently completed by Heritage Publications.In May 1997 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Historic District Commission.
