   Tamara W. Ashford joined Miller & Chevalier in October 2001. Her practice is in the area of federal income taxation, with an emphasis on tax litigation matters. Ms. Ashford has particular expertise in litigating tax cases before the federal district courts and courts of appeals.
   
   Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Ashford was with the Tax Division (Appellate Section) of the United States Department of Justice where she briefed over forty cases in eleven of the thirteen federal courts of appeals and presented oral argument in nearly a dozen of those cases.

   Ms. Ashford is the Current Developments Subcommittee Chair of the Court Procedure and Practice Committee of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association.
   
   Ms. Ashford has spoken on several occasions on the topic of attorney-client and work-product privileges in the context of IRS controversies. She also is the co-author of the article, "New Rules for Tax Opinions and Penalty Protection: The Proposed Revisions to Circular 230 and the Final Penalty Regulations," CCH Journal of Tax Practice & Procedure, Feb.-Mar. 2004, at 39.
   
   Ms. Ashford is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Law where she received her LL.M. in Taxation and was also awarded a Certificate of Specialization in International Tax. Her J.D. was received from Vanderbilt University School of Law, and her A.B. in Public Policy Studies from Duke University.
