   Bill Ashford, associate pastor and business administrator at First Baptist, said the church fell "a little shy" of its $182,000 target to fund 5,300 Southern Baptist missionaries who work in Northern Africa and the Middle East, among other places.
   
   Ashford said he doesn't see the missions shortfall as a major indicator of tough times for his congregation, or a warning signal that other declines in donations may loom. "I just think it says we have a lot going on at this church," he said.
   
   And First Baptist, like many churches, isn't about to reduce its growth plans because of weakness in the overall economy. In fact, despite the assessment of First Baptist leaders last September that the economy was slowing, Ashford said, the church nevertheless raised its operating budget for 2008 by 7 percent. Such optimistic planning, he said, is an important testament to faith.

   Dr. Bill Ashford was called as senior pastor of Capshaw Baptist Church on August 25, 2002. He was born in Oxford, Mississippi and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. The chief jewel in his crown is his wife Lisa to whom he has been married for almost 28 years. The Ashfords have two grown sons, Nathan and Nicholas.
   
   Before being called to Capshaw, Bro. Bill has served churches in Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama. He holds a Masters and Doctor of Ministry degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Bro.
   
   Bill's passions include studying and preaching God's Word and developing church leaders through mentoring. One of his main goals at Capshaw is reaching families of the Capshaw area with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ, and ministering to the many different needs that arise in family life. He believes that the gospel message has the power to change every life for eternity, and in the here and now.
   
   Bro. Bill likes to relax by taking walks with Lisa, playing golf, and hunting or fishing when time permits. You will enjoy getting to know Bro. Bill as a pastor and a friend.
