   DETROIT - Detroit Edison has named Anita Ashford assistant to the vice president , Power Generation , Employee Issues , as the utility moves forward with its program to establish a model workplace.
   
   Ashford , formerly a shift leader for the utility's security department , will work with Power Generation employee teams to help resolve workplace issues.
   
   Anita is a highly respected professional , nominated by her peers for this assignment , said William R. Roller , vice president , Power Generation.

   Ashford joined Detroit Edison in 1977 in the security department at the Belle River Power Plant. She has participated in and facilitated a number of corporate and human resources programs , and served as a Certified Diversity Trainer. Since 1989 , Ashford has served as an elected Port Huron city councilperson.
   
   Ashford received an associate degree in criminal justice from St. Clair Community College , Port Huron ; and a bachelor of arts degree in human resource administration from Concordia College , Ann Arbor. She has received numerous awards and honors , most recently Outstanding Leadership by the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials , Regional Ambassador Award by the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments and the Community Service Award from the Port Huron Branch of the NAACP.
