    Gwynne Ellen Ash is a former middle school reading and language arts teacher. After teaching at a Title I middle school in San Antonio, Texas, Gwynne pursued her doctorate in reading education at the University of Georgia. Specializing in struggling adolescent readers, Gwynne has been an assistant professor at the University of Delaware and just recently relocated to her home state, where she is an assistant professor at Texas State University, San Marcos. Gwynne has written chapters and articles on adolescent reading concerns and is currently working on a book on fluency development for adolescent readers.     Register for August workshop with Dr. Gwynne Ash

    Dr. Gwynne Ash will speak to teachers of grades 4-12 on August 4 and/or 5, 2004, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm. Her topic will focus on vocabulary learning for general word knowledge and vocabulary learning aimed at increasing comprehension. Participants will be given an overview of research regarding adolescent literacy.

    Day 1, held on August 4, is a repeat of the July 2003 session with Dr. Ash. Day 2 is further work with vocabulary and word study for the adolescent learner.

    Day 1 (either 2003 or 2004) is a prerequisite for Day 2.

    Dr. Gwynne Ash is a prominent researcher on the topic of adolescent literacy and contributing author to the Adolescent SIRI syllabus.
